The Great North American Toothpick Race 2012

When you have four kids (like my parents did) you have to be inventive in getting the them out of the house on a rainy day. So toothpick races were born. Get toothpicks, color them and race them in the sides of streets as the rain rushes into the gutter. The first toothpick into the gutter wins. We spent countless hours and killed hundreds of trees as we raced our toothpicks when I was a lad.

Now with boys of my own, toothpick races are a BIG deal in our house. Everytime it rains Turner wants to have one (or ten). Gus won the first race. This is the last race of the day. Winner takes all...

So Turner is doing the Boy Scout thing and he was super duper excited for the first Scout outing. Early Saturday morning we set out for the 4.5 hours trek to Enchanted Rock. A campsite that is about 20 minutes north of Fredricksburg. We hiked to the top of the mountain (at least that's what I'm calling it) Saturday afternoon, camped and then went to the Nimitz Museum Sunday.

Turner had an awesome time. His favorite part? Sleeping in the comfy cozy car (while it was POURING outside) with the air mattress and sleeping bags while listening to the Rangers win Game 1 of the ALCS on the radio.

Turner wins Principal Award.
